The verdict

Moved to Canada in his twenties, became a citizen in 1983, and went on to write some of the most beloved Canadian children's books of all time — from The Paper Bag Princess to Love You Forever. He's been writing for Canadian kids since 1979, later joined the University of Guelph's Family Studies department (which awarded him an honorary doctorate in 2000), and raised his family here. Canada has fully claimed him as our own, eh.
