Fun fact

He based Optimus Prime's voice partly on his brother Larry, a retired U.S. Marine Corps captain who served in Vietnam — Cullen said the change he saw in Larry after coming home gave the Autobot leader its quiet, dignified authority.

The verdict

The voice of Optimus Prime grew up in Montreal, learned his craft at the National Theatre School, and brought that distinctly Canadian warmth and gravitas to one of the most iconic characters in animation history. He moved to California in the '70s but never stopped being proudly Québécois, and Canadians will forever claim him as our own.
