The verdict

One of Quebec's most celebrated abstract expressionists, he spent much of his career in Paris but never stopped being Québécois to his core. Died in his beloved Saint-Laurent River region, having returned home for good in the 1990s. A Companion of the Order of Canada who made the world see Canadian art differently.
