Fun fact
Was banned from The Tonight Show for two years after a controversial comedy sketch about religion, but Johnny Carson eventually brought him back as a frequent guest host.
The verdict
Born in Winnipeg and raised there until his comedy took him south, he became a fixture on American TV while never quite shaking that prairie sensibility. Directed everything from Seinfeld to Curb Your Enthusiasm, but Canadians still remember him from those legendary Tonight Show appearances in the '60s. A true export who made it big but never forgot where the funny came from, eh.
